Good morning St. James Lutheran Church and happy Friday! I hope you are doing well!
Over the past couple weeks in church Pastor Neil and I have encouraged you all to pray and think about how we can best serve those affected by Hurricane Helene. We were overwhelmed by the feedback and response we got from people who want to help out! Praise God for you!
While there is still a lot of planning to do for physically going, we have a plan for how we can help victims now. The Southeastern District of the LCMS is seeking Flood Kits and Hygiene Kits to help in their relief efforts. What was suggested to us is that we utilize their Amazon links to ship the supplies directly to their relief efforts headquarters at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Conover, North Carolina. Below you will find the links to both amazon lists: one for flood clean up kits, and the other for hygiene kits. Feel free to include an encouraging message!
If you do not wish to order through Amazon, we have also included a link that utilizes a way for you to generously give for overall relief efforts. The link takes you to their Vanco, and the money that is given through their Vanco is used for a variety of things to help the ongoing relief efforts.
Finally, God’s word is power. We can keep praying for these people. Pray that the Lord strengthens all the volunteers, and all those affected.
I am reminded of King David’s Psalm, Psalm 34, where David says, “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” We continue to pray for all of those who have been affected by natural disaster, those who are brokenhearted and crushed in spirit. Through your generosity, prayers, and encouraging words, we remind all of those affected that our Lord Jesus Christ IS with them. Through your actions, Jesus is at work. Again, I praise God for you and your willingness to share the love of Jesus with these people.
