Vacation Bible School Update

Dear STJLC family and friends,

As you know, our Vacation Bible School program normally runs the first full week of August. This year, that would be August 3rd-7th, 2020. Since the rise of Covid-19 in March and our state’s executive lockdown order went into effect, we have been praying about what form our VBS should look like this coming August. As you are well aware, the situation changes on a near-daily basis, and we have thought and prayed long and hard about our solution.

As things currently stand, we do not see our normal VBS program working with proper social-distancing guidelines. Our normal program is attended by nearly 100 youth every year, not to mention the great number of volunteers that it takes to run the program. In the interest of everyone’s health and safety, we have decided that we will not have our “usual” VBS.

We understand that everyone looks forward to our VBS every year, and we wish we could do it! At the same time, we want to be able to provide something for you to do that week, for those who are interested. With that in mind, this year VBS will stand for “Virtual Bible School!” We will be offering a VBS program on our website, stjlc.com, the same week that we would have had our normal program, August 3rd-7th. This program will be completely free of charge, and will consist of videos for your child(ren) to watch each day, between 30 and 60 minutes each. Additionally, they’ll be able to play some games and do some crafts, all with things that you probably already have in your home (or will be very easy to get)! This program will look a little bit different than our normal program – you will see some familiar faces that you know and love, as well as some of our friends from elsewhere in NY who are helping put this together. We trust that it will be very enjoyable and keep your kids learning about God during the summer.

For more information, please visit our website. If you have any questions about this, please reach out to Ryan Howard, our Director of Christian Education – his email is ryan@stjlc.com. We want you to know that STJLC will still be praying for you over the summer, and we look forward to when we can all get together again! Blessings to you!
