Youth
Here at Saint James Lutheran Church our youth program is all about relationships. The relationship between youth, between youth and leaders, and most importantly between youth and God are what we strive to foster and develop. There are many aspects of the youth program that we’d love for you to be a part of, we are always looking to expand our community.
Held every Sunday from 12:30-3:00PM Youth Group is a chance for our congregation’s youth (Aged 8th Grade and above) to gather for fellowship. Led by our youth staff, youth group is a chance to build community and relationships that are sustained throughout the year’s events. Activities experienced at youth group include eating lunch together, a wide variety of group games, and maybe even a movie. No two weeks are the same! For more information about Youth Group please contact our Youth Director Maureen Montrose at mo@stjlc.com or just stop by the Youth Room at 12:30 this Sunday!
A mission oriented group of youth spawned this church community ministry, when after a mission trip to another state, asked, “Why can’t we do this in our own town?” Taking the lead from our youth, Saint James Lutheran Church periodically reaches out to those in need in our own community. Whether it be raking leaves, painting a house, or spending time with a community member in need of companionship, the youth (along with a committed group of leaders) spends an afternoon a season bringing the hope of Christ to our community in need. If you are interested in being a part of “Hands and Feet” ministry please contact our Youth Director, Maureen Montrose at mo@stjlc.com or if you are in need of service please contact our Youth Administrator Jill Spage at Jill@stjlc.com.
Periodically throughout the year, there are multiple events for youth to experience fellowship with each other. Examples of past youth fellowship events include; Movie Nights, Game Nights, and New York City Day Trips. Additional ideas for youth fellowship events are always encouraged! Feel free to send them to Youth Director Maureen Montrose at mo@stjlc.com at any time.
Saint James’ youth participate in a Mission trip every summer traveling to an area in need. Often utilizing the mission organization ‘Youthworks‘ our youth spend a week living in community with other youth from all over the country and devote their energies to serving the needs of an impoverished community. Our youth have traveled to many states including; West Virginia, Ohio, Louisiana, Alabama, Pennsylvania, and many others. In addition to ‘Youthworks’ our youth have also spent weeks of their summer and winter vacations participating with Lutheran Disaster Relief in the wake of Hurricane Katrina from 2005-2008. For more information about our Mission Programs keep an eye out for upcoming projects or contact our Youth Director Maureen Montrose at mo@stjlc.com.
Our youth program staff is comprised of Youth Director Maureen Montrose (mo@stjlc.com) and Youth Administrator Jill Spage (Jill@stjlc.com). In addition to the youth staff, there is an ever expanding group of committed volunteers which assist in these outlined programs as well. Without the help of these volunteers, the programs would not be as successful as they are. If you are an adult over age 18 and would like to be a part of our exciting youth program, please speak to the youth staff at any time. You’re time and energy would be very much appreciated!
